V.E Mean Field Theory of Condensation

چکیده
In principle, all properties of the interacting system, including phase separation, are contained within the thermodynamic potentials that can be obtained by evaluating Z(T,N) or Q(T, μ). Phase transitions, however, are characterized by discontinuities in various state functions and must correspond to the appearance of singularities in the par tition functions. At first glance, it is somewhat surprising that any singular behavior should emerge from computing such well behaved integrals (for short-ranged interactions) as ∫ ∏N N 2 dp~id ~qi ∑ p ∑ Z(T,N, V ) = i=1 exp −β i − β V(q~i − ~qj) . Bose-Einstein condensation in self-consistent mean-field theory
There is a wide-spread belief in the literature on Bose-Einstein condensation of interacting atoms that all variants of mean-field theory incorrectly describe the condensation phase transition, exhibiting, instead of the necessary second-order transition, a first-order transition, even for weakly interacting Bose gas. In the present paper, it is shown that a self-consistent mean-field approach ...

Resonating valence bond states in a doped Mott insulator was proposed to explain superconductivity in cuprates in January 1987 by Anderson. A challenging task then was proving existence of this unconventional mechanism and a wealth of possibilities, with a rigor acceptable in standard condensed matter physics, in a microscopic theory and develop suitable many body techniques. Shortly, a paper...
متن کاملCondensate density and superfluid mass density of a dilute Bose-Einstein condensate near the condensation transition.
We derive via diagrammatic perturbation theory the scaling behavior of the condensate and superfluid mass density of a dilute Bose gas just below the condensation temperature, T(c). Sufficiently below T(c) particle excitations are described by mean field (Bogoliubov). Near T(c), however, mean field fails, and the system undergoes a second order phase transition, rather than first order as predi...
متن کاملThe Universality Class of Monopole Condensation in Non-compact, Quenched Lattice Qed
Finite size scaling studies of monopole condensation in noncompact quenched lattice QED indicate an authentic second order phase transition lying in the universality class of four dimensional percolation. Since the upper critical dimension of percolation is six, the measured critical indices are far from mean-field values. We propose a simple set of ratios as the exact critical indices for this...
متن کاملPhysics 7450 : Solid State Physics 2 Lecture 3 : Bosonic matter
Abstract In these lectures, starting with a review of secondand coherent-state path-integral quantization, we will formulate a quantum field theory of bosonic matter and will study its thermodynamics and correlation functions. We will explore the transition to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of noninteracting bosons. Including interactions, we will study the properties of a superfluid and a ph...
